The Vase object in the middle came out of the kiln recently! It is built up very thin, with coil-and pinch
technique, then glazed inside with a matt turquoise glaze. With my new series of vase objects in three different sizes, I have started to use high-firing glazes. These three have been fired to 1240°c. The other two vase objects (left end right) are glazed with a matt black glaze
inside. The size of the vases are approximately 50/20 cm.
Clay and glazes are fascinating materials to me because of the vast possibilities you have to form it and design its surface. I mostly use the coil-building technique, in combination with slabs. In this way I am exploring ancient techniques, yet giving my works a contemporary appearance. The shape of my forms is an important part of my works. Here I work very controlled. For the surface design I like to combine controlled movement with coincidense. This is the more experimental part of my artistic approach.
